The Nathan Yip Foundation’s newly formed Associate Board is teaming up with the Flobots.org to present the first annual  “Back to School” Band Night, with all proceeds to benefit the Nathan Yip Foundation and the Flobots.org Youth Media Studio in Denver.

The Nathan Yip Foundation’s Associate Board was formed last year by a group of Nathan Yip’s friends from Kent Denver. Nathan died tragically in an automobile accident at 19 years old and a year later his parents, Linda and Jimmy Yip founded the foundation in their son’s name. Since 2002, the Nathan Yip Foundation has built seven schools and supports two orphanages in China; provides year-long support for an orphanage in dormitory in Mexico, has donated funds to Colorado Heritage Camps, Colorado Uplift’s My Book Foundation, Asian Pacific Development Center, Denver’s Escuela De Guadalupe and has done work in Africa.

Money raised from the “Back to School” Band Night will be used exclusively for work to support vulnerable youth and educational projects in Colorado. “We felt it was important to get involved in this foundation named for our good friend Nathan Yip,” said Keith Bell, the associate board chair. It’s been ten years since Nate died, and his spirit and soul have remained with all of us and we want to help make a difference in our community in Nathan’s honor.” “We want this event to become an annual Denver tradition,” explains Frosh. “A back to school tribute for our friend Nate to benefit education in Colorado.”

Bell was instrumental in starting the Associate Board, along with another Kent classmate, Alan Frosh, who is the Board Chair-Elect. The Associate Board includes Sam Bacon, James Barrett, Danny and Heather Bell (Marketing Chairs), Cameron Bosson, Ben Brenneman, Holly Downs, Jamie Duke (Fundraising Chair),Cara Goman, Emily Greene (Event Chair), Tom Harrington, James Iacino, Matt McConaty, Owen McMillan, Meg Merry, Meg and Will Parker, and Bailey Rogers.
